Piediluco Wheelchair Accessible Tours

Piediluco wheelchair accessible tours, with just over 500 inhabitants, is a small fraction of Terni.

The small fishing village stands on the shores of the lake of the same name between the Luco and Caperno mountains at a height of 375 meters.

The latter, also called the "Mountain of the Echo", thanks to its shape, is able to reproduce an echo of up to two hendecasyllables.

Piediluco Lake is one of the four lakes that originated from the ancient Velino Lake, following the channeling of the waters towards the Nera River, carried out in Roman times to reclaim the area.

This is how the 165 meters high Marmore Falls was formed.

The name Piediluco derives from the Latin and means at the foot of the sacred wood.

The area was already inhabited in the Bronze Age, then it was occupied by the Sabines and the Romans.

Touring Piediluco

A first evidence of a certain Castle de Luco, on top of the mountain, and of a Curtem de Postro, granted to the monks of the Abbey of Farfa by the feudal lord Bernardo D'Arrone, is found in a document dated 1028.

The village of Piediluco is dominated from above by the Rocca di Albornoz, of which today only the suggestive remains of some rooms, the tower and the walls remain.

Walking through the alleys of the historic center you can visit the small Church of San Francesco, built in the XIII century in honor of St Francis of Assisi who frequently visited these places.
