Touring Centuripe

One of the things to see in Centuripe is the Corradino Castle, the name derives from Conrad of Swabia who reigned in the mid XIII century in Sicily.

Today there are remains of this castle which was originally an ancient mausoleum, then re-adapted as a defense building.

In the Regional Archaeological Museum it is possible to admire a rich collection of artefacts that were found thanks to archaeological excavations carried out over time.

They range from the prehistoric and archaic section to the Hellenistic section with ceramic and terracotta objects.

Also interesting is the imperial and Roman Republican section which displays works of art and objects of daily use in the Roman city.

In the historic center of the city stands Roman Nymphaeum a thermal complex, which shows the composition made up of different rooms including the calidarium ( the hot room ), the tepidarium ( the warm room ) and the frigidarium ( the cold room ).

The walls were decorated with now lost frescoes and mosaics.

Among the typical gastronomy products, a special mention deserves the Bersagliere, a particular type of biscuit covered with a chocolate icing and still produced today according to an ancient recipe dating back to the arrival of the Allies in 1943.
