Touring Montefeltro
The historical region of Montefeltro is very rich in Castles and Fortresses, all to be visited.
Some of the Castles of Montefeltro have remained intact up to the present day and are evidence of that flourishing period of the Duchy of Montefeltro and of the history and culture of these places.
The ancient capital of the Duchy of Montefeltro was Urbino, a city rich in history and culture.
The Montecopiolo Castle, not far from the Borgo di Frontino, is a guaranteed step back in time.
The Fort of San Leo, in the province of Rimini, is the heart of the historic region of Montefeltro and it seems that the place name derives from this place, Mons Feretri.
The Rocca Ubaldinesca is located in Auditore and precisely in Sassocorvaro, on a rocky spur in the center of the town in a panoramic position over the valley of the Foglia River.
The shape of the fortress recalls that of a turtle with the round courtyard in the center and the walls and towers forming the legs of the reptile.
The Rocca di Sassocorvaro is also called the ark of art, because important masterpieces of art were hidden here during the Second World War to protect them from destruction and theft by the Nazis.
The Rocca di Fossombrone with the delightful visit to the Church of San Aldebrando, represented one of the cornerstones of the defensive system of the Duchy of Montefeltro.
