Thanks to the quality of its sea and its beaches, this town is considered one of the most sought after tourist destinations in the Grosseto Maremma.
The area around Castiglione della Pescaia is rich in historical evidence as it has been inhabited since the Etruscan era as documented by nearby Vetulonia.
Probably where Castiglione della Pescaia stands today, there was once the ancient Roman center of Salebrum.
The remains would be found in the port area, near the Bruna river.
A visit to the canal port is a must, with its two lighthouses ( one red and one blue ) placed right at the end of the piers that stretch out into the sea.
In the afternoon it comes alive with the return to the port of motorboats and sailing boats that find refuge in the canal.
But above all it is interesting to see the return of the fishing boats.
Because Castiglione della Pescaia, before becoming a rather exclusive seaside resort, was a fishing village.
