My husband and I recently experienced our dream vacation in Italy.
I am a quadriplegic and use a power chair.
Traveling isn’t that easy and Europe is especially challenging for travelers with disabilities.
We came across Accessible Italian Holiday online.
How lucky we were to have found that site!
The owner, Vincenzo, spent a lot of time and effort making arrangements.
He made everything we needed possible like accessible transportation and hotels.
We began in Florence in a beautiful and charming Hotel TF01. Fully accessible with a roll in shower.
Transportation was waiting at the Peretola Airport to take us to the Hotel TF01. We had an electrical problem the first night making charging my wheelchair almost impossible.
The next morning there was a taxi waiting to take my husband to get a European charger thanks to the work of Vincenzo!
Now, with fully charged batteries, we were able to walk the streets of Florence seeing awe inspiring sights, enjoying wonderful food and meeting such nice people.
I had gotten ill and Vincenzo was on the phone with us making sure I was all right and helping us through a difficult couple of days.
We had a day trip to Siena on Easter Sunday.
What a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Our driver, was such a wonderful guide and sweet person.
Then we took the high speed train to Rome. I was treated so well at the train station by the staff who dealt with people with disabilities.
We had first class treatment. The trip to Rome was a highlight. The countryside is so beautiful. There is nothing comparable that I’ve ever seen.
We arrived in Rome early afternoon, checked into our Hotel LR05 and went exploring right away.
We were located within walking distance to so many places of interest. If anything seemed too far, there were accessible public buses.
That was a nice surprise. Along with curb cuts and wider sidewalks. There was nothing we couldn’t do.
I even took an elevator to the top of the Colosseum! I have been many places, but I must say that the people of Italy are some of the nicest people I’ll ever meet.
Vincenzo even made a special trip to meet us in person. It was his efforts, attention to the details of my needs and his almost daily communication that made this wonderful trip possible and dreams come true.
