Vendicari Reserve Wheelchair Accessible Tours
Between Noto and Marzamemi, in Eastern Sicily, there is a place where nature gives its best.
It is the Vendicari Wildlife Reserve, an area where you can find different natural environments, areas of fresh water, salt pans, coastal dunes and kilometers of beaches.
The Vendicari Wildlife Reserve is among the most beautiful in Europe and includes an area of 15,000 hectares of land.
Walking among junipers, mastic trees and glasswort you can reach the sea, 13 kilometers of unspoiled coast are part of the reserve.
The various marshes are filled with birds during the period of seasonal migrations and can be observed from various huts located in strategic points.
Within the protected area there are also various beaches where bathing is partially allowed.
Other areas of the reserve are forbidden as a nesting site for sea turtles.
In this corner of paradise it will not be difficult to find flamingos, herons or cormorants.
Following different itineraries on foot or by bicycle, you can admire the remains of the Salt Plans, the Tonnara ( Tuna Factory ) and a medieval Watchtower.

Touring Vendicari Reserve
Once inside the Vendicari Nature Reserve, you can enjoy the beauty of a place that seems totally detached from reality.
The history of the Reserve, however, has remote origins, so much so that various archaeological evidences trace the presence of man in this area since the Hellenistic era.
In fact, not far from the beach of Marianelli there are stone quarries ( called Latomie ) dating back to the V century BC.
They were used in the Greek city of Eloro for the construction of monuments and sacred buildings.
The beach of Vendicari is instead very scenic, from here in fact you can admire the Islet of Vendicari and the remains of the ancient trap that dominates the stretch of coast.
Not too far from the trap is the Sveva Tower.

The Reserve runs longitudinally along the coast between Marzamemi and Avola for about thirteen kilometers.
In our opinion it is unthinkable to visit it completely in one day.
For this reason, the official local tourist board of the oasis offers three specific itineraries.
